On Friday August 9, 2002, I received a phone call at work around 1:45. My first thought after answering was my buddy had wrecked is new car due to the sadness in his voice. He told me that Danny Rowe had been electrocuted and passed a way. That night the crew got together to comfort one another. Even through the tears, we were able to share laughs as usual.

While we were all together someone tossed up the idea of doing a show in his honor. Mainly to help with the bill that had been left behind. On a time line this means less than two and a half months to plan and promote the show. We printed 2000 flyers and went to work hitting the local shows, businesses and the Internet. Originally our first thoughts were 100 to 150, but this was before we attended Nopi.

There we were amazed at the number of people that had heard about Danny’s accident and the show we were doing. A lot of people had said they were planning on coming. After Nopi we really had high hopes of maybe 300 vehicles. Which would not have been bad with the time we had to prepare.

Fast-forward, Sunday October 20, its show time! We arrived at the National Vision Center parking lot at 6 AM to get everything set up. It was cloudy with a chance of rain. By 9 AM we only had 30 – 40 vehicles registered. I was really beginning to wonder if the weather had scared a lot of people off. It was still early but had we set our goals too high?

Between 930 and 10, we were covered up. People were coming in large groups. When registration was over at 1 PM we had 220 hot rods, mini/full size trucks, and imports. We were shocked; we had planned and put together a show in less than two and a half months. It’s like the saying, “ if you build it they will come.”

All in all we had a great turn out. We would like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting the family and us in this time of need. You made it a huge success. We raised almost $6,000 in one day. I would also like to thank each and every person that helped prepare the show.
