Gauge Editor-in-Chief Donnie BabbSlammed @ SEMA!

Ok so I am a few days late…. What can I say…? The recovery from 9 days in Las Vegas at the SEMA show took a little longer than I was expecting. I must be getting old.  Either way we will have more SEMA coverage than you can handle in next months issue!

5 years ago one on the most tragic things that could happen to a small growing company happened to us. Our web-master Blair Smith suddenly passed away. When this happened we not only lost an employee but we lost a good friend. You can imagine how our staff felt. As a business owner I was devastated and never thought we could fill the large shoes that Blair wore. Then miraculously I received word of a guy in Dayton, OH that was looking for some work. I immediately picked up the phone and like a miracle, within 10 minutes I knew this was our guy. Now 5 years later I am writing an article about how it all went down. I don’t think that either Chris or I had any clue that this 5 year anniversary would ever come.

Chris, Thank you for all your dedication and putting up with our shit over the past 5 years. It has been a wonderful experience at gauge with you by our side. We love you….:)   and look forward to the next 5.

For this month Chris has put together a collection of some of his favorite work over the past 5 years. Make sure to check it out at this link:

Click on the cover and come inside to see what this issue is all about! Mike Nichols 2005 Dodge Magnum. Staff photographer Toby Mosholder and Smalls had the pleasure of this truly unique photo shoot at the 2006 ITB (Indy Truck Bash).

Every year our sport grows by leaps and bounds. Normally you hear stories of a guy spending his life savings in the middle of his mid lift crisus. But this month staff photographer Brad Walker captures the entire other side, by featuring Jeremy Rogers GMC Sierra. Jeremy drags this show stopping fullsize daily on his way to high school, that’s right high school. At an early age of 14 Jeremy got bit by the customization bug… Awesome Job Jeremy… We can’t wait to see what you turn out next when you get old enough for a table dance. J

This year at Southeast Showdown staff photographer Smalls had the pleasure of catching up with Justin Wyatt and featuring his immaculate 1992 Mitsubishi Mighty Max. The Mitsubishi and Dodge minis of the past have not been a real popular build over the past few show seasons. It is always nice to see someone that is keeping this era of the mini alive. Make sure to check out Justin’s awesome feature.

Since 1958 Chevrolet has produced one of the most awesome customizable vehicles of all time. The Impala has had enthusiasts bashing their brains; and knuckles trying to be the most unique with modifications to this legendary car. Brian Ostendorf has joined this club with his Agent Orange 1995 Chevy Impala. Totally spotless, Tons of chrome and full custom interior is what grabbed Staff Photographer Michael McGill’s eyes for this truly unique photo shoot. Make sure to check out this spotless version of Chevrolet history.

For show coverage this month we start off with Smalls in Anderson, SC for the Southeast Showdown: hosted by Acrophobia. Just one look at this show coverage and it is easy to see that this is a great show to check out radical rides and have a hell of a good time. Make sure not to miss any of the action at the 2007 show by visiting www.southeastshowdown.com

On the weekend of August 11-13, 2006 our staff had the pleasure of catching up with Charlie Cobble and the guys over at NOPI for the Southeastern Mini Truck Nationals. With over 500 registered vehicles you know we had a great weekend. Make sure to stay up to date on all of Charlie’s great shows at www.autoshows.cc

If you are really into totally radical modern import show cars and smoking hot models then you need to attend a Hot Import Nights show. This past June we had the pleasure of setting up shop at the Indianapolis HIN show; the show was full of awesome vehicles, huge vendor midway, and the most beautiful ladies in the business.  Do yourself a favor and don’t miss one of these events in 2007. www.hotimportnights.com An extra special thanks to Gauge Girl Kelly Jo for the extra modeling at the event.

To finish up this months show coverage we catch up with our friends over at www.coolcatmag.com for exclusive show coverage of the 19th annual California Truck Jamboree on August 6, 2006. This show has been a yearly tradition for several decades on the west coast. Stay up to date on all the info for the 20th anniversary show in 2007 at www.truckjam.com

That’s it for me this month. Make sure to check back December 1 for our annual SEMA show issue. We had 9 days of shows, VIP Parties and Las Vegas. It is a for sure not to miss issue.
