Where
do I begin? Where do
I start?
First, you
are going to see some changes
around here. Starting
with the new editor Dan Davis
- better known as Double D. That’s
me.
I have been shooting
in the automotive industry
for more than 13 years now.
My work has been in Mini Truckin,
Tailgate, Street Rodder, Off-Road,
Lowrider and many others. I
have been helping and shooting
with Gauge Magazine since the
first issue in 1999 with Todd
Wilts ram 50 aka “Ramster”. You
will slowly see some other
changes like more varieties
of vehicles and more models
featured on the rides we shoot.
And we have also added a few
new freelancers to add some
more show coverage for 2009.
Second,
hope everyone enjoyed our April
Fools cover with our very own
fat and tatted freelancer Lenny
Thompson. I’m starting
to think he likes to be in
front of the camera more than
behind!
Third, this
month’s issue is a tribute
to the Hot Rod industry. If
it wasn’t for the legends
like Ed “Big Daddy” Roth,
George Barris and Carl Casper
building kustom show cars in
the 50s and 60s we wouldn’t
be customizing our mini and
full-size trucks in the manner
that we do today. The funny
thing is most of us as kids
built 24th scale
models of these legends among
many others. We watched TV
shows like the The Monkees,
Batman, The Munsters and Knight
Rider that featured rides built
by these legends. Little did
we know that we would be in
our own garages customizing
our own rides 10 to 30 years
later. Now some of us are showing
our own kids what customizing
is all about. Today we look
up to greats like Boyd Coddington,
who recently passed, Chip Foose
and Troy Trepanier to name
just a few. These guys set
the bar high with Hot Rod and
Street Rods taking top honors
at every show across the United
States. Including the one and
only Ridler Memorial Award
presented at Autorama in Detroit
every year.
Last but
not least, I hope you enjoy
the current issue of Gauge
Magazine. We have been here
for over 10 years and plan
on staying around until our
own kids can take over the
duties so we can sit around
at a show and enjoy it without
having to work.
Til
next month,
Dan “Double
